Scovilliaus Maximus
Imperial Pepper Ale
It starts with a slight tingle of the tongue. Beads of sweat begin to form along with a sense of regret. Suddenly your entire body feels as though you’re walking through the gates of hell. If only you had known. In 1912, Pharmacist Wilbur Scoville tackled this heated issue, developing the scale that bears his name.
Capsaicin is plentiful in this spicy dirty blonde ale. Chipotles provide a pepper flavor while red and habanero peppers add raw heat. As your body temperature rises, a slight sweetness of candy sugar and Agave Nectar provide balance, though little relief. Red faced with steam coming out your ears, you succumb to the piquancy. At least this time you were warned.
